2004: The Year of the Monkey
Popular in Japan since ancient times, the junishi or eto (rat, ox, tiger, hare, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and wild boar) were imported into Japan from China. The signs cover a 12-year period, but the complete zodiac embraces 60 years, which was considered to be the total life-cycle of man. It is believed that the character of a person is determined by the year in which they were born.

See if it works! When were you born?

iKjeld.com
My original site will get a completely new look in 2004. You can have a peek here.
JAPANESE STREETS
My most popular site with between 40,000 and 70,000 visitors a month.
ForReaders
This site introduces the latest books about Japan and Japanese culture. This site will also get a new look in 2004 as well as an extended and better online book store to make it easier for visitors to find the best books on Japan. Can't show you the new site yet...
Japan Photo Library
To make it easier to find and select photographs from my growing archive I have begun to build an online photo library. This will become available during 2004, but you can already have a look now!
Japan Links
While researching articles I run into many excellent sites. Some of them I visit repeatedly and add to my 'favorites'. I now have more than 3000 sites in my 'favorites' and find it impossible to find anything so I started to organize them online. Only about 200 of my favorites have now been categorized online, but you will find this link database quite helpful.
The Japanese New Year Card
Just like people in western countries mail each other Christmas cards, the Japanese mail each other New Year cards, or nengajo. People often make their own nengajo, or purchase pre-printed ones from the post office. The post office cards have lottery numbers and allow you to win all kinds of exciting prizes. A lucky card could make your year Happy from the very start!
