Relatively little happened in 2006 as I had a lot of problems with my health. I finally discovered in August that I have a gluten intolerance. But even after removing even each and every hint of gluten from my diet, I still have some problems left. This made that I wasn't as productive as usual. My apologies to all the people that I inconvenienced in 2006!
Pakistan

Pakistan
In January I returned to Pakistan to cover the aftermath of the M7.6 earthquake on October 8, 2005. The situation was not as bad as I had expected. People were handling the cold and snow quite well. Still lots of people had to camp in unheated and un-winterized tents high in the mountains in the middle of Winter. I was deeply impressed by the hardy and tough the survivors were.

Street Fashion
In 2006 I was able to pay more attention to Japanese street fashion again after spending most of my time on disasters the past two years. I even started shooting underground street fashion trends at club events in Tokyo. I have been able to get some great shots here. And it is lots of fun!

Dutch National Archive

Dutch National Archive
The Dutch National Archive (Nationaal Archief) and the Kunsthal Rotterdam this year organize a unique exhibition about 17th century cartographer Johannes Vingboons. Some 130 maps from the Vatican are to leave the papal library for the first time since 1689. In association with World Press Photo, ten international photographers, including me, were asked to photograph the cities drawn by Vingboons. The exhibition takes place 27 January - 15 April 2007 at the Kunsthal Rotterdam.

Agnieszka Ledochowska

Collaboration
Polish artist Agnieszka Ledochowska asked me to provide photographs for a collaboration. She created some amazing works with my photos. She added a dimension to them that I had not even imagined to exist. Really powerful work. Her creations were exhibited and also published in book form.
