Dave White Sneaker Art in Tokyo

Wednesday, October 20, 2004 Posted: 09:41 AM JST

Dave White unveils his latest collection of works at Claska Gallery. The show is called Jumble and is organized by Gas. Press night is on the 26th, party night is on October 29.

Dave White creates amazing sneaker art. He did his first solo exhibition before he was 18. Thanks to critical acclaim from Adrian Henri, Liverpool's beloved poet and artist, word quickly spread. His premier solo exhibition was a complete sell out and he was awarded 'Best New Talent in Visual Arts'.

Over the following years Dave's work was quickly picked up by galleries and he was exhibiting alongside the likes of Hockney and Piccaso in the west end of London and at international art fairs. Today there are over 200 works in private collections worldwide.

The now legendary Sir Ernest Mason Satow (1843-1929) was a member of the British legation in Tokyo for twenty-one years. This classic book is based on the author's detailed diary, personal encounters, and keen memory. In it, Satow records the history of the critical years of social and political upheaval that accompanied Japan's first encounters with the West around the time of the Meiji Restoration. Fascinating.
