Ritz-Carlton Osaka Ranked as Most Preferred Hotel Employer in Japan

Tuesday, May 17, 2005 Posted: 09:40 AM JST

The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka, Japan's inaugural Ritz-Carlton hotel, ranked No. 1 Preferred Employer in Japan's hotel industry by a survey conducted by Ohta Publications, Japan's largest hospitality trade publication.

Ohta Publications announced the result of the survey in its first edition of Hote-fri, a magazine for those who work in a hotel industry. Ohta Publications commented in its article that the editor was overwhelmed with a tremendous popularity of The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka, one out of six people wishing to work for the hotel.

The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka received 96 votes, far greater than No. 2 hotel based in Tokyo which received 37 votes out of a total of 611 votes. Some of the reasons for wishing to work at The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka were: 1) I would like to work with the Credo card, 2) Strength of the brand and its employee training, 3) Stability of the firm and one's performance would be fairly evaluated, 4) It's a group of people who love to provide services, 5) Its environment seems to encourage and promote employees to come up with their own ideas and provide a quality service.

Another remarkable result of the survey was the fact that The Ritz-Carlton, Tokyo which is scheduled to open in 2007 ranked No. 11. This is all due to the strength of the brand in Japan made possible by the success of The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka.

"This ranking reconfirms our commitment to providing an outstanding work environment for our ladies and gentlemen, treating everyone with trust, honesty, respect, and integrity," commented Ricco DeBlank, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Osaka. "In addition, this is also a testament to the commitment of our ladies and gentlemen who provide exceptional and memorable experiences for our guests on a daily basis. We will celebrate this honor with them."

The Ohta Publications' survey was conducted in February 2005 by emailing its questionnaire to 14,000 email subscribers who are currently working in the hotel industry. Out of 14,000, 611 responses were valid.

Since its opening in 1997 many well-respected international and Japanese business publications have repeatedly named The Ritz-Carlton Osaka as the best hotel in Osaka and Japan.

The now legendary Sir Ernest Mason Satow (1843-1929) was a member of the British legation in Tokyo for twenty-one years. This classic book is based on the author's detailed diary, personal encounters, and keen memory. In it, Satow records the history of the critical years of social and political upheaval that accompanied Japan's first encounters with the West around the time of the Meiji Restoration. Fascinating.
